This is the most beautiful side of the island, with spectacular views of the countryside all the way to the mountains and the north coast. The tour will stop on the most stunning viewpoints and visit the following places: Machico, the oldest town where the discoverers first landed in 1418. Ponta de São Lourenço, a beautiful landscape of high and impressive cliffs. Santana, a lovely village on the north east of the island, famous for the traditional and emblematic A-shaped houses. Perfect place for a lunch stop. Ribeiro Frio, a Natural Park where you will have time to visit the local trout hatchery, all surrounded by the original and protected forest of the Island “Laurisilva”. Lovely place to taste the typical drink of the Island ‘poncha’ made of white rum from the sugar cane with lemon juice and honey (poncha is not included). Reach Pico do Arieiro, the highest point of the island 1810 mts (depending on weather conditions).
